Tao Hai-yue grew up in a southeastern coastal city during China's reform and rapid urbanization. Her father is a landscape artist and publisher, and her mother is a freelance calligrapher. She studied sculpture in Shanghai, China, and then completed an MFA degree in public art at the Weimar Bauhaus University in Germany.
After graduation, she served as the co-founder of YUUE Industrial Design Studio for many years in Berlin, Germany. Currently, she is more focused on her personal art practice. She specializes in working with diverse media, including painting, sculpture, heterogeneous installation, video, etc. Her art practice focuses on memory, feminism, migration, conflict, and some of the most pressing issues of our time.
